Interfaith Sanctuary Homeless Shelter Expansion in Boise, Idaho
The old Interfaith Sanctuary was serving 270 people nightly since 2020—consistently at full capacity—forcing many onto the streets. The outdated downtown facility lacked space for families, medical care, or comprehensive services. The new $14.5 million, 42,500-square-foot facility provides 205 beds, separate family housing, medical/hospice rooms, and 24/7 supportive services using a "housing first" model focused on permanent housing transitions.
The Interfaith Sanctuary in Boise provides emergency shelter and supportive services for people experiencing homelessness. Here's what makes them distinctive:
Core Services:
Emergency shelter (beds, meals, showers)
Case management to help guests transition to stable housing
Employment assistance and job training
Health and wellness services
Document recovery (IDs, birth certificates)
What Makes Them Unique: The Interfaith Sanctuary stands out for its collaborative, faith-based approach that brings together diverse religious communities to serve those in need. They focus not just on providing a bed, but on helping people rebuild their lives through dignified, wraparound support.
Educational Support: They support education in several ways:
Life Skills Training - Teaching budgeting, cooking, job skills
GED Preparation - Helping guests complete high school equivalency
Employment Readiness - Resume writing, interview skills, workplace basics
Youth Services - For families with children, ensuring kids stay enrolled in school
Financial Literacy - Banking basics, credit repair, saving strategies
The expanded facility will allow them to serve more people and provide better spaces for these educational programs, helping break the cycle of homelessness through skill-building and empowerment.
